These gears have a hidden element: pneumatic pistons that can pop them off the wall. Why? In order to make a game out of putting them back on in the proper configuration. Once they are properly installed, participants can turn the crank to move a pin and open a door (not included in this prototype).
These gears were designed for
5wits , a company that produces interactive adventures. They asked us to create a challenge that could be incorporated into their newest project: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. This activity needed to reset quickly and automatically between groups, incorporate elements of Universal Design, and be robust and safe enough to be used by people of all ages.
